How many stories are hidden between the layers of a painting?<\/b><\/p>\n

The production Imprint invites you to the gallery for an evening when paintings are transformed into a live scene. Voice, silence, movement, words, and visual language come together in a collage that is created directly among the works of art.<\/span><\/p>\n

In collaboration between the National Gallery Prague and the Memory of Nations Theatre, an original lyrical-dramatic sequence is being created by students under the direction of Josef Dole\u017eal. Young artists immerse themselves in the life stories of visual artists marked by the totalitarian regimes of the 20th century and compose a collage of scenes, poems, and images from their fates and visual language.<\/span><\/p>\n

Students were inspired by the stories of eyewitnesses Ivan Bukovsk\u00fd, Sylvia Kl\u00e1nov\u00e1, Olga Sozansk\u00e1, Ji\u0159\u00ed Sozansk\u00fd, and Jana Vohryzkov\u00e1.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>

Contemporary dance about Latin American dictatorships.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

The dance performance Sons of the Dictatorships offers a raw testimony about life under authoritarian regimes in Latin America. It is based on the true stories of people who grew up in an environment of corruption, violence, and fear \u2013 but also of an unbreakable desire for justice.<\/p>\n

\"We are poor, not by choice, but because they have stolen everything \u2013 our blood, our breath, our books, our health. We are a people who have been silenced, but with the will to scream and tell our history.\"<\/span><\/p>\n

Choreographers Lukas Lizama and Barbara Hernandez explore the theme of resistance against oppression through the power of the body and movement. Their dance is dedicated to corporate bosses, corrupt politicians, and murderers in suits \u2013 those who watch in silence while others suffer.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although rooted in the Latin American context, the message of the performance is universal and powerfully echoes the experience of Central Europe. Sons of the Dictatorships remind us that authoritarianism has not disappeared \u2013 it has merely changed its face.<\/span><\/p>\n

The project is a co-production of the Memory of Nations Theatre and the Embassy of the Republic of Chile, with financial support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Chile through the Program for Cultural Activities Abroad (PACE) 2025, of the Direction of Cultures, Arts, Patrimony and Public Diplomacy (DIRAC), from the State Cultural Fund and the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.<\/span><\/p>\n

REVIEW: Sons of the Dictatorships move us with the authenticity of their testimony. Images of authoritarian regimes send a chill down our spines.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>

A theatrical performance with art installations that explores the stories of Holocaust survivors who had to pass through the \u201cgathering place\u201d in Prague. It was created in collaboration with the Memory of Nations Theatre, the National Gallery Prague, and the Department of Art Education at the Faculty of Education, Charles University. It was performed at the Exhibition Palace of the National Gallery Prague on the occasion of Holocaust Memorial Day (January 27). The performance is based on the real stories of Helga Ho\u0161kov\u00e1-Weissov\u00e1, Jana Dubov\u00e1, Michaela Vidl\u00e1kov\u00e1, Toman Brod, and Zden\u011bk Proke\u0161.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>

A dance performance on the occasion of the Holocaust Memorial Day commemorated the\nfate of Roma victims. The authors were inspired by the stories of survivors Rudolf Murka and Anton\u00edn Lagryn, who lost most of their relatives in Auschwitz, and Franti\u0161ek N\u011bmec, who witnessed the events in the camp in Hodon\u00edn as a boy. The performance thus brings to life the stories of the Roma people, 90% of whom disappeared from Bohemia and Moravia during the war, and almost five thousand of whom perished in Auschwitz.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>

We Are Memory 2022: Heydrichiade<\/b><\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>
<\/div><\/div>

A theatrical performance commemorating the events surrounding the assassination of Reich\nProtector Reinhard Heydrich. In the Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius, where the paratroopers hid, eleven young actors brought to life the fates of the brave people who helped them, as well as those who suffered from the Nazis\u2019 retaliatory measures after the assassination. The script was based on the stories of survivors \u2013 survivors of Lidice, a worker at the castle in Panensk\u00e9 B\u0159e\u017eany, and the son of the sister of a paratrooper.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>

A week-long theatre workshop for seniors over 55 took place in the historical center of Prague in November 2021 and was inspired by real events from the Velvet Revolution. Here, female witnesses who experienced first-hand the events of November 17, 1989, processed their memories theatrically.<\/p>\n<\/div>

2021: Others Play Instead of Us<\/b><\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>
<\/div><\/div>

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this theatrical performance about the tragic fate of the Wels family, murdered during the Holocaust, was instead made into a short film. The film explores the previously unknown story of the family, which no one knew about until 1984. The son of Tom\u00e1\u0161 Wels was living in England after the war when he undercovered the tragic fate of his ancestors. The film, shot in the villa of the architect Loos, depicts the family across generations against the backdrop of historical events.<\/span>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>

11 young actors aged 16-21 met with 5 Holocaust survivors under the guidance of professionals. Based on the powerful experiences of these meetings, a performance was created that explores how people coped with the past after the war and how they passed on traumas to the next generations. This recording captures the genesis of the theatrical performance and the collaboration between the young actors and the survivors.<\/span> <\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>

12 young actors met with 6 survivors and created a touching performance out of their stories. In the National Library in Prague on January 27, 2020, they paid tribute to the victims of the Holocaust and commemorated the personal tragedies and collective suffering of this dark chapter in history.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>

In the Hidden Tracks project, young people searched for forgotten folk music and songs. These they collected from survivors as well as folk dance and song ensembles. They then developed their own interpretations of traditional music through theatre and dance. The participants met in February 2020 in Schiffdorf, Germany, where they collaborated on a joint performance in a \u201ctheatre train\" under the guidance of an international team of instructors. They also lived and created together.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>

On January 27, 2019, on the occasion of the International Holocaust Remembrance\nDay, young actors premiered a theatrical performance at Masaryk Station in Prague. Six stories of children during the Holocaust brought the horrors of this dark chapter in history closer to the younger generation. The play was created in collaboration with the Dutch organization Theater Na de Dam and thus symbolically commemorated the fates of the children saved by Sir Nicholas Winton. The station, as a place of saying farewell to the victims of the deportations, gave the performance a powerful atmosphere.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>
