Adults do nothing but guard the boundaries of custom,” is one of the authentic quotes from the personal diary of the Czech art historian, poet and prominent dissident Věra Jirousová. After the signing of Charter 77, this prominent figure of the Czech intelligentsia of the second half of the 20th century was subjected to persecution and systematic bullying by the state authorities of the time, operating exclusively in the intentions of the Czechoslovak, pro-Soviet political regime. Věra Jirousová’s personal diary and the memories of her son Tobiáš became the basic, inspirational starting point for high school students from the theater studio Paměti národa at the Theater Without Rails to create the production Tweety. Under the guidance of the progressive lecturer Barbora Černochová, the young theatergoers mainly dealt with questions during their meetings: what is it like to be a young, thoughtful, non-conformist girl growing up in the 1950s in Czechoslovakia? What do people write in their journal entries? Can we really know him through them? The production Tweety premiered on May 14, 2023 at the Monument of Silence, where the June reruns were subsequently shown with unexpected audience interest.
