For a year, we have been rehearsing, editing, rewriting, and figuring out how to bring the stories of eyewitnesses to the stage. Now it’s finally time for the curtain to rise. In May and June, the Memory of Nations Theatre Studios z from Prague, Brno, Hradec Králové, Karlovy Vary, and Liberec will take the stage. From May 7 to June 16, their work will be presented gradually across these cities. You can enjoy original productions by young people who have spent the entire year working with eyewitnesses’ stories and exploring how memory can speak on stage. And hen comes the grand finale. The plan was simple: a joint workshop bringing together students from the Memory of Nations Grammar School and eyewitnesses from the TisíciHRAn's production 89. To sit down at the same table, revisit the stories of November, and try to understand what remains relevant today. But the present intruded on the school day. In Prague, a demonstration called “We Won’t Give Up the Media!” was being organized for April 22, 2026, and the students decided they wouldn’t just stick to talking. Summer Theatre Workshops: Become Part of the Story What happens when a group of young people comes together to explore real-life stories from the 20th century and collectively creates their own theatrical performance? We’ll find out this year. The Memory of Nations Theatre invites all artists aged 11–19 to summer theatre workshops in the form of a day camp. The theme is the moment of decision—that instant when a person must choose a course of action that could irreversibly change their life. Our dance production Sons of Dictatorships, which explores the theme of Latin American dictatorships, has been selected for a three-day residency at the theatre Ponec as part of its Open Stage program. The production will be performed at the renowned dance venue on February 15 at 6 PM. Tickets can be purchased here. Sons of the Dictatorships – Contemporary dance about Latin American dictatorships "We are poor, not by choice, but because they have stolen everything – our blood, our breath, our books, our health. Our governments are corrupt, as is our police force, and we are ruled by dictatorships that everyone says have disappeared. We are a people who have been silenced, but with the will to scream and tell our history." The dance performance Sons of the Dictatorships offers a raw testimony about life under authoritarian regimes in Latin America. The Memory of Nations Thatre Studios will continue in the 2025/2026 school year, namely in Prague, Brno, Hradec Králové, Karlovy Vary and Liberec! They are designed for young people aged 12–26, who are interested in theatre, stories, and recent history. New for this season: Studio at Prague City Theaters for participants aged 15–26 – open to our "grown-up" theatre artists and newcomers. Studio in collaboration with CIRQUEON – combining theatre and elements of contemporary circus. The Studios are a space for creativity, collaboration and finding your own perspective on the past and present through theatre. ✨How many emotions can fit into a few dozen minutes on stage? During the Theater Studios Exhibition at Španělská 10, we experienced smiles, tears, and moments of complete silence in the auditorium. The Studios from Chříč, Karlovy Vary, Hradec Králové, and part of the Prague 8 ensemble presented their productions. The young actors from the Memory of Nations Theater managed to transport the audience to moments when our history was being written — on the edge of courage and loss. We are grateful for every round of applause, for every pair of focused eyes in the audience. The year-long efforts of our young theatre artists will culminate in the Festival of Theatre Studios, which will open on Victory Day, May 8, and run through mid-June. During the festival, they will premiere their productions on their home stages and we will welcome the regional Studios on the Theatre Studios Exhibition on May 30.
