Zapyškis, okres Kaunas, Litva

The Stuba Community Centre, located in Kaunas district in Lithuania, was attracted by our way of theatrical processing of history.

On 25 July we started a week-long theatre workshop and introduced 17 young people to our way of work. The young people interviewed four local eyewitnesses. They recalled, for example, the burning of Romas Kalanta, a man who burned himself to death in protest against the occupation and the incorporation of his homeland into the Soviet Union. The Singing Revolution and the Declaration of Independence were also discussed. We, in turn, told them about the fate of Jan Palach and the circumstances of the Velvet Revolution. All participants had the opportunity to compare the history of the two countries.

At the end of the week, a small public presentation awaited all the participants of our weekly workshop in the form of short theatrical etudes based on the eyewitnesses' testimonies.

Bylo nám potěšením pracovat v Litvě a těšíme se na další rozšiřování činnosti Divadla Paměti národa dál do světa.
